Independence Youth Cheerleading

Program Overview

Our program is open to children from Pre-K (must be 4 by Sept 1st) through 6th grade, and we cheer for Independence Youth Football.

Our season runs from August to October for sideline cheer and extends until early December (possibly longer) for competition cheer.

Competition Cheer (Optional)
Competition cheer is available for athletes on our White, Blue, and Gold Squads.

This is an optional extension of our program, and participants must also participate in sideline cheer.

New in 2026 - we will offer a 7th & 8th Grade competition team.

Eligibility
Independence Youth Cheerleading is for residents of Independence only.

Our Mission
At Independence Youth Cheerleading, we are committed to fostering leadership both on and off the field. We aim to provide our athletes with a fun, safe, and inspiring experience that encourages personal and team growth.

Teams are organized by grade:

Pre-K/K (Mini Squad)

• Practices:

  • Wednesdays 4:30-5:00pm

• Games:

  • This squad will likely have 5 or 6 game days on Saturday mornings in Independence. Time and location TBD.

1st - 2nd grade (White Squad)

• Practices:

  • Practices will be held on Wednesdays. Competition team will have additional practice on Tuesday.

• Games:

  • Wednesdays in Independence. Time and location TBD.

• Competition: This is optional and offered in addition to sideline cheer. We usually attend 3 competitions each year.

3rd - 4th grade (Blue Squad)

• Practices:

  • Practices will be held on Wednesdays. Competition team will have additional practice on Tuesday.

• Games:

  • 7 games (and possible playoffs) as part of the Lake Erie Youth Football League. Lake Erie Youth Football League

  • Games are usually on Saturday any time between 9am-1pm. Expect 1-2 home games and the rest away. Games will likely begin in Aug.

  • We may also cheer at some Independence Rec Flag games on Tues/Thurs nights.

• Competition: This is optional and offered in addition to sideline cheer. We usually attend 3 competitions each year.

5th - 6th grade (Gold Squad)

• Practices:

  • Practices will be held on Wednesdays. Competition team will have additional practice on Tuesday.

• Games:

  • 7 games (including playoffs) as part of the Chagrin Valley Conference Youth Football League.

  • Games will be on Saturdays or Sundays anytime between 9am-1pm. Expect 1-2 home games and the rest will be away. Games will likely begin in Sept.

  • We may also cheer at some Independence Rec Flag games on Tues/Thurs nights.

• Competition: This is optional and offered in addition to sideline cheer. We usually attend 3 competitions each year.
